Fashion has always been more than beautiful clothing to me. It is a form of storytelling, identity, craftsmanship, and personal expression. My passion for understanding both the creative and technical sides of fashion led me to earn my bachelor’s degree in textiles and design.

My education gave me a strong foundation in fabric, construction, color, pattern, texture, and the design process. I learned that the success of a gown begins long before the first stitch. It starts with understanding how a textile moves, how it responds to the body, and how the right construction can transform an idea into a beautifully finished garment.

That knowledge continues to influence every CBTK Bridal design. When selecting fabrics or developing a custom gown, I consider more than appearance. I think about weight, movement, structure, comfort, draping, and how the material will help the bride feel when she wears it.

Studying Couture Fashion in London

My creative journey also took me to London, where I spent time studying couture fashion at Central Saint Martins.

Being immersed in one of the world’s most respected fashion environments expanded the way I approached design. I was surrounded by creativity, experimentation, and an uncompromising commitment to artistic expression.

My experience at Central Saint Martins challenged me to look beyond traditional ideas of bridal fashion. It encouraged me to develop a stronger point of view, take creative risks, and approach each garment as a work of art.

Studying couture also deepened my appreciation for the time, discipline, and precision required to create an exceptional gown. Couture is found in the details, the placement of a seam, the structure beneath a silhouette, the drape of a fabric, and the hand-finished elements that make a garment feel truly special.

I brought those lessons back with me and made them part of the foundation of CBTK Bridal.

From Education to Purpose

My education taught me how to design and construct garments, but my experiences with brides taught me why this work matters.

As a young Black woman building a career in the bridal industry, I did not always see designers who looked like me or bridal experiences that represented every woman. Instead of allowing that absence to discourage me, I turned it into my purpose.

I created CBTK Bridal to combine my textile knowledge, couture training, and passion for personal service. I wanted to build a bridal house where exceptional design and inclusivity could exist together.

My goal is not simply to create beautiful wedding dresses. I want to understand each bride’s story and use my experience to create something that feels personal to her.

My vision is to help bring fashion back to the city by creating a couture bridal destination where women can experience thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship, and personal service.

I also want my journey to inspire the next generation of designers, especially young Black girls who may not yet see themselves represented in fashion. I want them to know that their creativity has value and that there is space for their ideas, their voices, and their talent.

A bride should never be told that she cannot wear a certain silhouette because of her size, shape, age, background, or identity. She should not have to settle for limited choices or feel that bridal fashion was not designed with her in mind.

If a bride falls in love with a gown, we will work to bring that vision to life for her.

My knowledge of textiles, garment construction, and couture design allows me to think beyond standard sizing. The goal is to thoughtfully adapt the gown to complement and celebrate the individual bride while preserving the beauty of the design.

The dress should be made to honor the woman, not require the woman to change for the dress.
